As a Technical Consultant within the Retail Technology Strategic Projects Team, you contribute to defining and driving the Technology Strategy through ideation, discovery, planning & delivery of all styles and patterns of architecture solutions.  You are a seasoned systems professional who brings insurance knowledge and solutions design experience to bear as you develop system/application architecture assets. You think strategically and enjoy developing road maps that contribute to the evolution of the enterprise application portfolio from current to future state (in alignment with Divisional and/or Global architecture standards). You enjoy staying current on technology trends and can successfully evaluate vendors and tools for suitability and/benefits analysis.
As a Strategic Projects IT team player, you understand that successful architectures bring value at an appropriate cost to the organization and you can effectively assess the organizational impact of technology solutions, whether it be on skills, processes, structures or culture.  You appreciate the value of communicating the architecture and use your strong communication skills to verbalize and document all solution architecture design and analysis work.  Your information solutions include checks and controls to ensure proper governance, security and quality of information assets.  You are excited by new approaches in architecture and will leverage your hands-on and architectural to introduce change to the organization.
What Will You Be Doing?
  • Reporting to the IT Leader within the Retail portfolio of Strategic Projects Delivery and in alignment with the Retail IT Portfolio Architect, you will:
  • Work closely with Consulting team members & Key Business Partners to define the Technology Strategy each year in support of delivering on business strategies across the larger insurance organization (ie: Sales, Customer Experience, Product & Pricing, Underwriting)
  • Provide oversight to ensure effective execution of agreed upon initiatives from the Technology Strategy
  • Provide technical leadership through training and/or mentoring development team members
  • Document technical solution proposals, estimates, systems, implementation plans, processes and procedures
  • Work with Business Systems Consultants and Business Stakeholders in conducting “Request for Proposals” (RFPs), system evaluations & Proof of Concepts (POCs) in support of the insurance and mortgage creditor strategies
  • Partner with Business System Consultants to drive vendor/system selection process for new technology 
  • Develop architecture and coordinate technology deliverables in alignment with Global and Divisional IT Strategy and applicable Centers of Expertise
  • In alignment with Global and Divisional IT Strategy, identify opportunities to enhance existing architecture, development processes, practices and standards
  • Contribute to organizational development and the successful delivery of various systems development projects through collaboration with IT partners, business and client stakeholders
  • Drive the quality of solution deliverables in the various systems within the Insurance and Mortgage Creditor areas through project involvement and by working with other Solution Architects and Consultants in a collaborative team environment
  • Support the utilization of Shared Services functions to ensure the successfully delivery of projects and initiatives; contribute to a Service oriented team and culture
  • Adhere to Global Information Risk Management policies and standards

We need you to have a number of these:
  • 10+ years progressive experience in open systems architecture and development within an Enterprise scale business applications IT environment
  • University/college degree with relevant Computer Science background or equivalent industry experience
  • Technical environment includes a number of these: Java/Spring, JUNIT, C#/.Net, nodeJS, angular, XML, JSON, Biztalk, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Azure, Websphere, Concourse/Fly, Jenkins, SonarQube, Gitlab, TFS, Visual Studio, Eclipse
  • Experience developing systems for external users such as distributors, advisors and/or customers
  • Demonstrated experience navigating the complexities of systems integration across a variety of system platforms and vendors
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to provide updates to all levels
  • Superior organizational, time and project management skills and an excellent ability to recognize critical path deliverables and key dependencies in order to deliver within project timelines
  • Experience performing evaluation on user requirements with a focus on cost benefit analysis
  • Strong knowledge of Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes and methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of IT security best practices
  • Experience developing external and general design & architecture documentation
  • Ability to work and lead effectively in dynamic, complex situations within a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills. You can build relationships easily with a diverse group of internal and/or external vendor IT teams.
  • Experience with financial and insurance systems and/or familiarity with business functionality (e.g., insurance products, banking products, mortgage creditor, distribution model)
  • Waterfall and Agile experience
  • Preferred:  Experience implementing Cloud infrastructure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
