Key Focus:
As a Hadoop Technical Specialist, this role will consist of working with several aspects of Hadoop technologies.  Working closely with Data Engineers, Data Scientists and Hadoop Infrastructure Engineers, this role will help build and maintain data integration solutions and the enablement and configuration of core Hadoop capabilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the creation and support of Big Data warehouses that can be used for reporting or analysis by data scientists
  • Participate in PoC/PoT efforts to integrate new Big Data management technologies, software engineering tools, and new patterns into existing structures
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Governance leads, and Hadoop Infrastructure Engineers to ensure core technical capabilities are implemented and performant.
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure proper configuration, monitoring, tuning/optimizing, troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with other data management and IT team members on project goals
  • Influence/recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
  • Participate with handovers to operational teams
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems discovered in Big Data databases and overall ecosystem.
  • Follow change management procedures and help to create policies and best practices for all Big Data environments
  • Maintain involvement in continuous improvement of Big Data solution processes, tools and templates
  • Create and publish documents for technical community
  • 3 to 5 years of working experience in data warehousing specific to core Hadoop and RDBMS technology
  • Proven exposure to the Hadoop ecosystem and toolset – Sqoop, Nifi, Pig, Spark, HDFS, Hive, HBase, etc.
  • Exposure to Hadoop data integrations involving data ingestion, data mapping and data processing capabilities is a plus
  • Understanding of Hadoop security frameworks: Knox, Ranger
  • Exposure to compiled languages (Java, Scala) and scripting languages (Python) is a plus
  • Linux Shell Scripting experience is a plus
  • Good understanding of ETL methodology and tools
  • Experience with the Hortonworks Data Platform (version 2.4 or higher) is a plus
  • Certified in Hadoop (i.e. Developer, Administrator) is a plus
  • Candidates from a finance/banking industry background is a plus
  • Experience working in a cloud IaaS/PaaS environment a plus
  • Experience using a source code management / version control system
  • Experience in data profiling and analysis is a plus

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency in SQL, HiveQL, relational database design and methods
  • Proven understanding of batch-oriented Hadoop frameworks and patterns: Sqoop, Hive, HDFS, Pig
  • Experience with ETL Tools and methodologies a plus
  • Installation and configuration of Hadoop ecosystems a plus.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills, applied to the Big Data domain
  • Ability to work with development and infrastructure teams in an Agile environment to develop new features and modify existing features with a “design for the future” mentality
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Self-reliant and comfortable with a rapidly changing environment
  • Customer service orientated
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information sciences or related field
  • 3+ years IT experience within an enterprise operating environment preferably in financial services setting working with ETL tools, Data Warehouse, RDBMS, and Hadoop/Big Data vendor technologies
  • Proven Hadoop/Big Data experience
