Due to the growth of its business in  Australasia and Asia, Hancock Natural Resource Group Australasia (HNRGA) is looking for a Business Development Analyst to join its team based in Melbourne. Reporting to the Director, Business Development, the Business Development Analyst will be responsible for supporting HNRG's institutional sales and client account management functions in Australasia and Asia.


Summary: The Business Development Analyst will be responsible for supporting institutional sales in Australasia and Asia for private investments in agriculture, timberland and renewable energy, via individually managed accounts and commingled funds. The Business Development Analyst will also support Client Account Management functions for HNRG’s existing clients in Australasia and Asia.  The individual will work closely with the Director of Business Development, other Business Development and Client Account Management colleagues, as well as a global team of investment and operational personnel. 

The incumbent will support the execution of HNRG’s regionally focused marketing and sales strategy through: the development and maintenance of marketing and presentation materials; coordination, preparation and review of responses to Requests for Proposals (RFP’s) and Information (RFI’s); and use of relevant HNRG related systems (Salesforce and PMAPS). The incumbent will also support Client Account Management functions including portfolio modelling/analysis, reviews, and responses to client requests.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Build and maintain a sound understanding of the investment fundamentals, market dynamics, supply chains and operational characteristics of timberland, farmland and renewable energy investments
  • Monitor economics of global farmland and timberland markets
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of marketing and presentation materials
  • Assist in the identification and development of new relationships, and support the growth and maintenance of an active network of prospective clients
  • Support the entire sales process from first encounter through signed contract
  • Support Client Account Management functions, including portfolio modelling/analysis, client portfolio reviews, and timely responses to client requests
  • Coordinate, prepare and review timely and high quality responses to RFP’s and RFI’s from prospective and existing clients
  • Support the arrangement of educational field tours for prospective and existing clients
  • Participate in meetings with prospective and existing clients
  • Conduct Business Development and Client Account Management activities consistent with HNRG’s culture of compliance
  • Participate in the development of top tier global Business Development and Client Account Management functions through collaboration with regional colleagues regarding best practices and information sharing through ongoing use of client relationship management and RFP systems (Salesforce and PMAPS)
  • Support other business units within HNRG with undertakings in the region.




  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field e.g. Agriculture, Forestry, Finance, Economics
  • Experience in or sound understanding of natural resource operations, preferably in at least one of the farmland, timberland or renewable energy asset classes
  • Investment experience that includes exposure to alternative investments (timberland or farmland) and working with clients in an advisory role, will be an advantage
  • Highly organized with strong sense of accountability and responsibility for results
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with financial/analytical competency
  • High degree of initiative, and an ability to work independently but also collaboratively with various internal groups throughout the organization
  • Ability to interact and build relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization and with external parties
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, work collaboratively and have strong communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including presentation development
